February 2010 News
Most of you that have been out on the course this winter realize just how wet the course has been. The ground is saturated and the springs are flowing. This is the reason for the Driving Range to be closed at the Calvert course. Both courses are extremely wet everywhere and I hope it dries out before the end of February! Wet conditions limit our course improvements that we try to accomplish through the winter. We have been able to trim a few trees and you may have noticed a few trees missing as well. Trees do provide comfortable shade in the summer, however they can be detrimental. They shade out grass and extend roots into greens and bunker drain lines causing them to collapse as well as compete for moisture and nutrients.
The recent cold weather we had did not do any damage to the greens. I know there was some concern amongst many members. Samples from our greens have been incubated and they are greening up nicely.
Please remember to repair your ball marks on the greens! Again, if there is anything I can do to make your golf outing more enjoyable, please let me know.
